Our Vision
“To be a well-managed, inclusive and friendly hockey club providing a variety of playing and development opportunities for all sectors of the local community”

Our Ethos

To combine a high standard of hockey performance with the development of our members in a social and family inclusive environment.

Our Objectives

* To encourage, promote and develop hockey in Leek and its surrounding areas for all ages now and in the future;
* Develop junior members in playing ability, tactical aspects, and sporting etiquette involved in hockey;
* Offer a platform for playing and personal development for all members regardless of age or ability;
* To ensure a duty of care to all members of the club;
* To provide facilities and social activities for club members and wider family and friends to enhance cohesion and the club's spirit; and
* Continually improve the facilities offered to its membership.

Leek Hockey Club is proud to be one of the leading Hockey Clubs in Staffordshire, with six Men's teams, four Ladies teams, a Veterans team, Mixed team and several Junior teams.

We also have 11 England Hockey qualified Coaches and 27 England Hockey qualified Umpires.

The club has gone from strength to strength over the years, with the playing membership of the club currently over 320. There is a great family atmosphere at the club and everyone is made to feel welcome!

Currently the Men's 1st X1 are playing in Midlands Premier, with the aim of returning back to the National League after a 10 year stint there came to an end in 2017.

The Ladies 1st X1 finished as champions of Midlands Division 1 in 19/20 and are promoted to the Midlands Premier; the highest league that the Ladies have ever played in!

Recent successes have also being achieved from other teams throughout the club, with the Junior U18 boys reaching the National Finals in 2017 and 2018 and the Mixed team reaching the quarter-finals of the England Hockey Mixed Cup.

The club owns its Club House at Bridge End, Leek, where there are four grass pitches and our infamous club house. These pitches have served us well over the years and the annual Summer Tournival that attracts around 20 teams from around the country is still played on the grass to this day.

All league hockey is played on our own astro-turf pitch at Leek High School - due to the number of teams in the Club we also occasionally use other local pitches.

The club is renowned for its off the pitch activities as much as its on the pitch success with a busy social calendar full of events open to friends, family and the local community.

Club History

Leek Hockey Club was formed in 1922 following a public meeting at the Labour Church on August 25, with all games during that inaugural season being played on 'Little Birchall' on the Cheddleton Road for a rent of £4. The following season, the club moved to Beggars Lane sports ground where it played for many years.

During the Second World War, a few stalwarts, kept the club going, sometimes combining with Leek Park Ladies and also Cheddleton Ladies.

The silver jubilee was celebrated at the Red Lion Hotel in 1948 where members were advised of the following rule: "The food shall not be picked up or propelled in any, manner or direction, except with the fork."

As part of our celebration for the 75th Anniversary of the club a special Commemorative Brochure was created, tracing the history of the club from that first meeting in 1922, right through to the present day. It looks back at the early games played by the club, the scorers the characters and there is also a picture of the team dating back to its formative years. The special anniversary booklet goes into more details of the club's achievements and is packed with facts, stats, pictures and tributes, researched and written by Mick Pointon and compiled by John Edwards.

The Club is very much looking forward to its Centenary celebrations in 2022.
