Last weekend marked the 39th Annual Mixed Tournival at Leek Hockey Club and despite the forecast, we were treated to some fantastic weather that lasted the whole weekend.
Ten teams competed across two days of hockey for the chance to win either the Cup, or if knocked out they would drop down to compete for the Plate. On the Saturday each team played seven games which then gave them a seed for the knockout phase which took place on the Sunday.
After seeding 5th after the first day Seven Deadly Shins, captained by Aaron Woolliscroft, were unfortunately eliminated from the Cup in the semi finals following a defeat to a strong Blazers side. However they then recovered and won the Plate, beating Erewash 2-1 in the final.
But ultimately it was Blazers who won the competition for the second consecutive year after a close final against Lymm. The final went all the way to flicks after an end-to-end 0-0 draw that could’ve seen either side win it.
A massive well done to Blazers who went unbeaten all weekend, and a massive thank you to all teams that took part and everybody who helped to make it an incredible weekend.
Same again next year!!
