Leek Ladies 1st XI got off to a promising start with their first game of the season away at Burton. With a team of young players and new faces, Leek were excited to play for the first time together in a league game. From the start Leek were strong, putting pressure on the ball and maintaining discipline in the press. The transition between defence and midfield ran smoothly and Leek utilised the wider outlets of the pitch. In the last few minutes of the first half, Leek linked passes well and found debutant Lola Blake at the top of the D, who confidently put the ball in the back of the goal. The score at half time was 0-1 to Leek. Burton pressed hard in the second half, earning a few short corners, but Leek defended well and prevented them from capitalising. Leek had 3 short corners of their own, including an unlucky missed deflection and so the score remained the same. In the last moments of the game, Leek remained calm under pressure and worked together to maintain possession. The full time whistle came and it was a 0-1 win for Leek. It was evident that moral was high and each player thoroughly enjoyed the first game of the season. A special mention to our debutant, playing their first 1st XI league game; Tanya Petcova, Olivia Lawley, Scarlett Robinson, Kat Parry, Honor Beumont-Pearson and Lola Blake, who all had an excellent game.
