Another unfortunate weekend for Leek Ladies 1's playing at home against Stourport Ladies 2's.
From the starting whistle Leek had a high press, forcing mistakes from the Stourport opposition. The first 5 minutes seemed promising, with Leek having the majority of the possesion and several goal-scoring chances. The Leek side were unable to convert the chances and Stourport gained possession of the ball. With this loss of possesion came the repetitive onslaught of short corners against the home team. It was from one of these short corners that the opposition scored from the second phase, making the score line Stourport 1 - Leek 0 at half time.
The second half mirrored the first in Leek having majority of the possession. Despite this, play was end to end throughout the very tense half. Leek desperately attempted to level the score, with some good build up play between Liv Bray and Becky who were instrumental in the middle. In response to Leek's attempts, Stouport upped the intensity, were aggressive off the ball and were quite physical. Leek's third short corner of the half brought immense promise when Shannon Ruth scored off of the second phase until the goal was disallowed when mistaken for coming off the oppositions defender.
Overall, the final result of Leek 0 - Stourport 2 did not reflect the effort and performance of the home side. Player of the match was awarded to Liv Bray for her relentless perceverence in midfield throughout the game.
