Leek secured a comfortable home victory with a controlled and professional performance at Leek High School on Saturday. After a bright start by a direct Edgbaston team Leek settled and began to dominate the game with their trademark quick passing and movement, Harry Mavin and Harry Mellor being particularly prominent for the Moorlanders. It was Mavin that opened the scoring with a close range finish after good work by young forward Sam Heath, Leek soon doubled their lead with Josh Woodcock firing high into the net to continue his fine form from penalty corners.

The game then continued in the same pattern, Leek controlling possession and dictating the pace of the match and Edgbaston resorting to long balls in the hope of inducing a mistake in the Leek defence, however, the experienced pairing of Stuart Brindley and Tim Tipper alongside teenager Charlie Heath ensured they never got near to testing goalkeeper Hugh Philips-Bland.

Shortly before half time Leek put the game beyond doubt when youngster Toby Shuttlewood held the ball up well before timing a fine pass to Ted Thackstone who coolly slotted the ball through the keepers legs for his sixth goal of the season.

Leek started the second half poorly and conceded a scrappy goal to give the Warwickshire side hope of a comeback, however, this was quickly extinguished as Woodcock fired in his second corner of the game before Sam Heath rounded off the scoring with a clam finish following a fine move involving Harvey Hughes and the veteran Paul Nixon. The 5-1 scoreline was a fair reflection of the game.
