Leek hosted Shrewsbury 2nd team this weekend who sat 4 points ahead of Leek in the league.

Leek started the game the stronger of the two sides, applying pressure on the visitors defence and having a lot of chance. The home sides first goal came from Ed Whittaker on a short corner with a strong push into the middle of the goal.

Leek were relentless in their press and this eventually led to their second goal of the game which was scored by Tyler Heath after the ball was pulled back to the penalty spot and he had the whole goal to aim at. Leek scored their 3rd about 10 minutes before half time though Sam Heath who found himself at the back post and managed to deflect the ball into the goal. Leek went into half time 3-0 up and the happier of the two sides.

The second half started like the first, with Leek searching for more goals. Ed Whittaker managed to find his 10th goal of the season from yet another short corner, pushing the ball into the back of the net past the Shrewsbury goalkeeper.

Sam Heath found his second of the game and Leek’s fifth with a very composed finish, steadying himself before slotting the ball into the goal. Leek found their sixth of the game through Morgan Rhead finding himself on the back post with an open goal, calmly passing the ball into the goal. The game ended 6-0 to Leek with the home side playing some very nice hockey and earning themselves 3 valuable points.

Leek’s man if the match went to James Aberley who had a great game at right back. Winning the ball numerous times and also helping out attacking down the right hand side. A special mention to James Williamson who had a quiet game but when needed helped Leek keep a clean sheet with some good saves.
