Bloxwich sit 2nd in the table so we knew this match was going to be tough. Leek started the first half strong, intercepting and pressurising Bloxwich well.
MURFIN and KNIGHT joined the 2s today and what a great addition they proved to be. Within the first 8 minutes, following a clever slip from ROBINSON, MURFIN skilfully smashed the ball past the keeper and into the corner of the goal, taking Leek into an early lead.
The midfield of MUDD, FEILDHOUSE, KNIGHT, STONE, BRADBURY and WRIGHT, fought robustly to keep the ball, maintaining possession and putting pressure on Bloxwich midfield and defence with some powerful tackles and clever passing.
BEAUMONT-PEARSON held play well up front alongside MUFIN who supported each other through strong communication and team work.
Deservingly, 20 minutes into the first half, BRADBURY won the ball to find KNIGHT in the D, who finished with a lovely hit into the goal, taking Leek 2 up.
Within minutes, and from some sharp passing from our midfield; MURFIN was found at the top of the D who smashed the ball over the keeper and into the net to take Leek further into the lead.
Unfortunately, following a lucky break in play, Bloxwich were able to pull one back just before half time. Ending the first half 3-1 to Leek.
Leeks half time talk celebrated team effort with a view of focussing on quality of passing, communication, positioning and transference.
Leek went out confident with WRIGHT executing some lovely speedy runs down the right wing, and Leek showing strength and determination, with them continuing to press hard on Bloxwiches defence. Leeks solid defence, made up of JONES, FRODSHAM and HOBSON- OBHRAI vigorously intercepted Bloxwich play, securing Leeks lead and supporting the ball up the field powerfully.
Leek secured a number of penalty corners which they sadly failed to materialise from, until MURFIN confidently stepped up to receive the ball, smashing it past Bloxwiches defenders into the corner of the goal from the top of the D. Taking Leek further into the lead.
MURFIN continued to support team play by passing back allowing Leek to transfer play confidently, which saw leeks final goal result from some skilful play by MURFIN who ran the ball down the field, past Bloxwich defence and into the back of the net. Ending the game Leek 5-1 up.
MURFIN was awarded player of the match for her commendable performance.
Special mention also goes to our younger players STONE and WRIGHT who showed some great strength and determination. Also FRODSHAM and HOBSON-OBHRAI who had a solid game playing out of position due to the absence of captain SALES due to illness.
WELL DONE LADIES 2's -Overall, great attitude and team performance.
