Cannock 3rds - 6
Leek 3rds - 0
Leek came out strong with some excellent defensive play by Helen Finney, Sian Jones and Sarah Deaville early in the match ensuring that the constant attacks by the more experienced Cannock team were unsuccessful. However, despite a number of brave and successful saves made by stand in goal keeper, Alex Spragg, they centrally made a break through. Julie Hunt and Amy Sales worked tirelessly in the midfield making some strong tackles to keep Cannock out of the attacking zone. Due to some unfortunate umpiring decisions and Cannock showing their experience as a team leek went 4-0 down as the whistle went.
After an encouraging team talk by captain, Kate Jones, Leek started the second half with lots of pressure and they were ready to attack. Nicky Hanks and Libby Sherratt worked well with Sian Jones and gained good possession on the left. Heidi Broad and Ruby Lawley linked well down the right, pushing Leek into an attacking position. Kate Jones and Nat Whiston worked hard up front to create more space. The team gained a number of attacking short corners in the second half. Despite some powerful shots from Sarah Deaville the back of the net was still not being found.
Despite the their effort Leek conceded a further 2 goals in the second half. The final score 6 v 0 not representing the commitment and efforts of the team. Player of the match was given to Ruby Lawley for her determination and great hockey throughout the game.
