After 2 weeks of no games due to Keele University conceding and Cannock pulling out of the league early on in the season, Leek ladies 4s were keen to get back on the pitch. The ladies 4s had debuts from Emily Obhrai in defence, Lou Clarke in forward, and Liv Bray who turned 13 the week before making it her Ladies Team debut as well, in the centre. With a tough game back against Lichfield’s 5th team, 2nd in the league, following on from our draw with Lichfield 6th team 1st in the league, 3 weeks prior, it felt like Lichfield had something to prove.
Leek ladies 4s struggled to get into the game, with a few messy passes and letting Lichfield slip through. After a few attempts Lichfield finally scored half way through the first half. Leek pushed back and finally got their heads in the game. With nothing coming of a few short corners awarded to Leek, and some incredible saves by Sophie Warrilow in Goal, we held them at a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.
Leek came out strong in the 2nd half, but unfortunately Lichfield managed to score 5 minutes in bringing the score to 2-0. Leek didn’t let this defeat them and with the strength of Emily, Jaime Mumvuri and Megan Lawley in defence and the dynamic abilities of Carla Critchlow, Eleanor Casey and Liv Bray in the middle, Leek pushed forward. This was soon rewarded when Tash Bray in a forward position managed to dribble past a defender in the d and calmly slotted the ball in the goal between goalie and post. This was shortly followed by Tash’s daughter, Liv, taking an amazing hit the moment she entered the d and the ball went straight into the back of the goal. Unfortunately for Leek not long after this, after another amazing hit from the top of the d by Liv Bray that lead to a goal, it was controversially disallowed by the umpire. Despite this set back Leek carried on playing an incredible game, taking most of the possession in the second half, a few noticeable efforts to secure the win from Tash, taking on 3/4 defenders in the d, Kat Parry hitting across the back line to Lou Clarke, Ella Gayes and Liv Lawley also both had attempts. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, a fantastic effort, with Liv Bray being nominated man of the match in her debut game.
