Leek are through to the next round of the Mixed competition after seeing off Prescott in a penalty shootout

Leek turned up to this fixture, keen to progress to the next round of the cup. The Leek line up saw a nice balance of youth and experience, with representation from both the Men's and Ladies 1s and 2nd teams. Leek started well stringing passes together that Prescott found hard to cope with. After a good opening 10 minuets, from a phase of quick passing the ball fell to Lydia Murfin in the 'D' who took a shot which the keeper saved. However, Lydia was able to pick up her own rebound and smash it into the back of the net, giving Leek the early advantage. Unfortunately at this point the game got scrappy and Leek let this affect them and disrupt there flow. Through this Prescott had a break, despite a first save by James Williamson in the Leek goal, Prescott were able to pick up the rebound and bumble it over the line. This saw the game go into the half time break with both sides having one goal a piece.
The second half started in a scrappy style, and neither side could settle and create pressure. The game got stretched with Prescott often resorting to a half pitch aerial, however Leek coped with this well, but struggled to break into the opposition's 'D'. As the game broke down the supporters were sent from the pitch due to voicing their exasperations as they felt Leek were unlucky with some of the umpiring decisions. The game petered out in a scruffy style, with neither team creating a clear cut opening. The fixture would have to be decided with a penalty shootout.

Leek won the toss, and opted to shoot first. Richard Vincent stepped up and powered the ball passed the Prescott keeper. Williamson then denied Prescotts first attempt, before Nic Wealleans attempt went wide. Williamson again ensure Leek kept there advantage as he denied Prescott for the second time. Adam Knott stepped up to take Leeks 3rd attempt, however he was cut down by the Prescott Keeper, this resulted in a penalty stroke that Kott failed to put away. Williamson saved Knotts blushes as he made sure he kept his shootout clean sheet going, as he made another save. Lydia Murfin stepped up to take Leeks fourth attempt. Her powerful shot hit the keeper but looped over him into the empty net. Williamson then stood firm and made his fourth save of the shootout to ensure that Leek progressed to the next round.
