Leek welcomed local Derbyshire team Buxton in the latest round of the Tier 1 England Hockey Mixed Championship.
Leek started the game well keeping hold of the ball and playing together as a team. A pin point pass by Katie James was deflected by Rich Corden into the Buxton D. Dan O'Neill beat the onrushing visitor keep and calmly found the backboard. This saw the start of continuous pressure by the Leek team, and before long a smart link up in the Buxton D between Corden and O'Neill saw Corden double Leeks lead. Continuous Leek pressure saw a them gain some short corners, it was from one of these corners a powerful hit by Rich Corden resulted in Leek's 3rd goal. As leek continued to keep control of the game O'Neill managed to grab his second and Leek's fourth of the game.
Buxton tried to push high and managed to find some space between Leek's midfield and defence on one occasion they managed to drive into the D and a strong reverse shot through the crown managed to find the Leek goal and put Buxton on the scoreboard, leaving the halftime score 4-1.
Leek started the second half strongly, after a team talk of pushing through from the defence and keeping patient. Rich Corden managed to complete his hat-trick before a miss strike by Adam Knott saw his name added to the list of scorers with Leeks 6th.
Every player for Leek performed well with forward Lauren Ferns gaining the Player of the Match award for her excellent play. Leek now wait this weeks draw to see who they face in the next round of the cup.
