The Road To Lee Valley Continues!

On Sunday the Leek mixed team made the 70-mile trip to Bromsgrove , hoping to make it through to the last 32.
Bromsgrove made a quick start and put pressure on the Leek defence. A few sloppy passes from the Leek defence didn't help either. However, Leek's keeper James Williamson stayed nice and big and made a few good saves.
Leek's first goal came from a quick free hit taken by Kieran Heath. It went straight to Joe Knott who took on two defenders and smashed a reverse stick past the keeper. A great goal and a great start for Leek.
Leek settled down and started to play their smooth quick hockey. Liv Bray attacking down the right and Lydia Whittaker down the left. Bromsgrove tried to play a long ball straight to their center forward. Leek' center back Rich Cordon intercepted the ball inside his own half. As he normally does, he continued his run past three Bromsgrove players. He got into the D and calmly won a short corner.
The injection went slightly to the right .Dan O'Neil then slipped it left to Rich Cordon who calmly flicked the ball past the keeper and into the net. 2-0 to Leek. Leek's 3rd goal came quickly after , again from a short corner. This time it was a direct drag flick from Rich Cordon. The keeper fully committed to his stick side however the ball went the other way. Leaving the keeper rather embarrassed.
Leek controlled the rest of the half and in fact the game. Some great play by in the middle from Dan O'Neil, Kieran Heath and Ed Whittaker meant they were able to find the forwards quickly. Alex Whittaker and Lydia Murfin made some great leads and linked well with Joe Knott.
Bromsgrove went down to 10 players a couple of times for a few bad tackles. One which sent Adam Knott flying into the air. Not the first time an oppositions woman player has done that to him. Bromsgrove did apply some more pressure later in the game and won a few short corners of their own. However, James Williamson stayed big and kept a clean sheet on the cards. The final whistle went and Leek have put their name into the hat for the next round. The road to Lee Valley continues! Thanks to Jenny Cordon who travelled with the team to umpire.
