Men's 1st team pick up a point on the road

After their 1st win of season last week, Leek made the long away trip to play Rugby. This game has been a close one over the last few seasons with the points been shared each time .

Leek knew exactly how Rugby would set up and this is how it turned out to be. Leek had a lots of early possession around the back, with Tom Greenwood and Callum Bell dictating the play. Balls were fed into a midfield of Rich Cordon, Dan Oneill and Ben Mellor but they were quickly pressed.

Making his 1st start for the 1st team, Noah Clarke started brightly and held the ball up well. Both teams only had a few chances with Rugby getting the 1st short corner of the game. However Leeks defence stayed strong and cleared their lines. Goalkeeper Adam Ford made a couple of good saves and an excellent 1v1 challenge which kept the score level.

With a few minutes left of the 1st half Leek pushed forward and a rash tackle came in from the Rugby defender and a penalty stroke was given. After missing one here last year, Dan Oneill stepped up again. This time slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner. 1-0 at half time.

Rugby always press higher in the second half and this stopped Leek from coming out. A poor pass from Leek's defence allowed a counter attack. The Rugby forward went around Leeks keeper and scored a reverse stick shot. Rugby had three or four short corners towards the end of the game. One being stopped on the line by postman Ben Topley.

The game ended 1-1 which was a decent away point and Leek find themselves sat 2nd in the league after match day two.
