Seven Heaven for Leek 1st team

Leek 7 v 1 Loughborough

This week saw the Men's 1st team host Loughborough University. After two poor results from Loughborough so far this season, Leek knew they were in for a tough game.
Leek started off well , keeping the ball and transferring it around the back. Every time the midfield received the ball 3 players quickly surrounded them. However, after three minutes Elliot White broke the line and his run continued into the circle and ended up through the keepers legs and Into the net.
Loughborough pushed forward but never really troubled leek goal. This was down to great defending and communication from the entire team. After 20 minutes, Leek won their 1st short corner of the game. Up stepped Rich Cordon who confidently slotted the ball past the Loughborough keeper.
A green card to James Abberley allowed Loughborough back into game. The man advantage helped as they won their 1st short corner. A well worked routine meant keeper Adam Ford had no chance with the deflected goal.
Short corners have not always been easy for Leek to convert over the years but their next goal came from one. Ben White's power was too much for the Loughborough keeper to handle. A quick response from the home side. 3-1 at half time.

Leek knew that Loughborough would have to come our strong so keeping the ball would be key, especially as Leek lost 2 of their forwards to Injury.
Paul Nixon, Callum Bell and Tom Greenwood were solid in defence which allowed the rest of the team to keep pushing forward . In the 50th minute Leek's persistence paid off and they were awarded a penalty stroke. Dan O'Neill converted it past the keeper just like he did last week.
Leek won another short corner just a few moments later. With Leek's main two drag flickers off the pitch up stepped Freddie Bell. His flick was deflected past the keeper to make it 5-1.
Leek went down to 10 men with Callum Bell receiving a green card for not retrieving 5 yards. This meant Loughborough tried to get a goal back. However a great pass out of defence by Paul Nixon found Ben White in loads of space. His cross found Joe Priestman who slipped it pass the scrambling keeper.
In the last minute of the game Leek were awarded another short corner. Ben whites flick was converted which left Leek with an 80% conversion rate.

What a game, what a win , what a performance!
