Leek Men's 6ths 2 v 2 Newport 3rds
The men’s 6ths took a point from a close game last Saturday away at Newport. Missing influential players Steve Franklin and Henry Lockett the 6ths had a slightly different look to it this week but welcomed the experienced Andy Lowe to bolster the midfield in another youthful looking team.
Leek fell behind after 10 minutes to a superb finish from a penalty corner and 10 Minutes later Leek were 2 v 0 down when a deflected miss hit found the bottom corner.
Leek responded well and really started to take control of the game.
George Neill and Andy Lowe bossed the midfield and began to link really well with Billy Bennett and Zac Cooper whose driving runs down the right were causing the Newport defenders all sorts of problems.
Jacob Horwell and Joe Mellor were linking really well and started numerous attacks down the left and with Taylor Plant finding lots of pockets of space in and around the D Leek were creating numerous chances but failed to capitalise.
The second half saw Leek continue to play the better hockey and it wasn’t long before they pulled a goal back when Taylor Plant latched on to a loose ball from a penalty corner and he scored for the narrowest of angles.
Newport then had a sustained spell of attacks but man of the match Callum Plant pulled off a number of quality saves to keep Leek in the game.
With time running out and Leek pushing for the equalise George Neals clever pass found Jules Brooks in space with his back to goal he turned and his deft touch surprised the flat footed goalkeeper and the ball nestled in the bottom corner of the goal with the very last touch of the game!!
