Leek travelled to Wolverhampton Grammar school to face opposition they beat convincingly in the home fixture. Although Leek had a strong squad it was made up of mainly defensive players some of whom had to play in unfamiliar positions.
The first half was mainly Leek attacks and many short corners. Unfortunately none of the opportunities created could be converted. The midfield of Andy Jackson, Josh Barber, Billy Bennett, Simon Whiteley and man of the match Zach Cooper worked hard throughout the game both in attack and getting back to defend. Liam Brown, Dave White and Eliyan Lahouni at the back were excellent in dealing with the experienced attack of Old Wulfs and building attacks of their own from the back. Callum Plant made a return to the 7th team and had an excellent game. The only goal of the first half came when a high cross into the Leek D was met by a Old wulfs stick which luckily for him headed straight into the Leek goal giving Callum Plant no chance.
The experience of the Old Wulfs team was proving to be very effective in defence as they seemed to be constantly giving away short corners and fouls, but not goals. The strike force of Chris Taffe and Phil Brown were frustrated by some very robust defending.
The second half was much the same as the first, Leek dominating possession and being awarded numerous short corners. The tackling of the home side became more and more desperate as Zach Cooper outpaced and outskilled his markers meaning they had to resort to fouling him to halt his progress. The rest of the Leek attack were also facing strong unfair challenges which, in other games, may have resulted in some cards being shown.
The game ended with a disappointing scoreline for Leek of 1 : 0 but the 6 junior members of the Leek team all had excellent games (as did the senior players). The result was celebrated by the by the home team who were noticeably relieved to make it to the final whistle without conceding.
