North Staffs 6th team 0 : 6 Leek 7th team.

North Staffs 6th team 0 : 6 Leek 7th team.

Leek 7th team travelled to play the bottom of the league North Staffs 6th team confident they would give a good account of themselves.

Leek began the attack immediately with Taylor Plant, Chris Taffe and Charlie Ward-Banner up front all looking threatening and the midfield of Simon Whitely, Richard Goodhead, Carl Plant and Andy Casey linking the defence and attack beautifully.

Leek took the lead early in the first half following a period of good build up play finished off skilfully by Taylor Plant. Leek then faced a couple of scares when the opposition broke through with long balls, a combination of good defending and poor finishing meant Leek retained the lead. The defensive line of Callum Plant, Liam Brown and Eliyan Lahouni were looking solid although hit outs from their own 16 yard-line seemed to struggle to clear the home side attack and Reece Mason-Noon in the Leek goal was called on to make some key saves.

A second goal was needed to settle Leek down, it did eventually come from Chris Taffe who took his opportunity well. Two more goals were scored by Leek before halftime, another beauty from Taylor Plant and a poorly defended short corner which was converted by Chris Taffe who turned rolled back the years by drag-flicking into the roof of the net.

Leek started the second half hoping for more of the same and although they were equally dominant they only scored two more goals, which again came from Taylor Plant and a well worked short corner finished by Chris Taffe.

Reece Mason-Noon made some more fantastic saves to keep a clean sheet and the back three looked relaxed in dealing with the attacking threat of North Staffs. It was particularly satisfying as the back 4 were all juniors dealing competently with a group of senior attackers. It was also nice to have three members of the same family (The Plants) on the pitch for the same team, all of whom put in a fantastic performance. This was a great 7th team performance against a team of equally skilled opposition players, the big difference being the North Staffs team weren’t allowed to play as a team through good marking and hard work on and off the ball by the Leek side. Every Leek player played well but Richard Goodhead received the Man of the match award for his 100% commitment and never give up approach throughout the game.
